Laboratory
laboratoryThe assimilation and integration of the enormous amount of information available today in Ophthalmology has fuelled the formation of two relatively nascent branches of diagnostics-Ocular Pathology and Ocular Microbiology. At Shri Ganapati Netralaya, the Laboratory Service is dedicated to diagnostics, wherein we have histopathology, cytopathology, automated hematology and biochemistry, bacteriology, mycology and serology. Detection of the minimal number of micro organisms in diseases of infectious etiology of the eye is essential for timely and appropriate treatment.
We aim to increase the diagnostic capability manifold by upgrading from the existing fluorescence microscope to the advanced technique of Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) shortly. Collaboration with the Life Sciences Research Centre, Mahyco, to aid in ultra structural diagnosis, using their transmission electron microscopy facility is under way.
