SUPPORTED
BY
Laboratory
The
assimilation and integration of the enormous amount of information
available today in Ophthalmology has fuelled the formation
of two relatively nascent branches of diagnostics-Ocular Pathology
and Ocular Microbiology. At Shri Ganapati Netralaya, the Laboratory
Service is dedicated to diagnostics, wherein we have histopathology,
cytopathology, automated hematology and biochemistry, bacteriology,
mycology and serology. Detection of the minimal number of
micro organisms in diseases of infectious etiology of the
eye is essential for timely and appropriate treatment.
We aim to
increase the diagnostic capability manifold by upgrading from
the existing fluorescence microscope to the advanced technique
of Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) shortly. Collaboration
with the Life Sciences Research Centre, Mahyco, to aid in
ultra structural diagnosis, using their transmission electron
microscopy facility is under way.
Anaesthesiology
Shri Ganapati Netralaya has in its panel three full time
anesthesiologists
for administering anesthesia in surgeries like pediatric
cataracts, glaucoma and squint. Ocular trauma, complex vitreo-retinal
and orbital surgeries also often require general anesthesia.
The department is equipped with all modern equipments like
anesthesia ventilators, The recovery room personnel are trained
to monitor patients postoperatively.

EYE
BANK
Top
In
India , thee are approximately 120 lakh blind in both eyes
and 80 lakh blind in one eye , which is about one fourth of
the total blind population of the world . This means 14.9
out of every 1000 people in India are blind compared to just
3 per 1000 in the developed countries. Blindness in most cases
is avoidable that is, either preventable or curable. Of the
120 lakh blind, approximately 103 lakh are curable by relatively
simple operations, unfortunately yet they remain uncured.
About 96 lakh persons suffer from cataract which can be cured
by a simple operation. Seven lakh of India's population suffering
from corneal blindness, mostly children in their early childhood,
can be cured by corneal transplantation.
Library

An air-conditioned library with 775 books with number of national
& International journals, audiovisual system, internet
facility is open twenty four hours. The library is kept updated.
To make full use of all these, regular medical discussions
are conducted.
Medical
Record Department
Top
A
complete record of all patients right from the inception of
the hospital is maintained by medical record department with
ICD coding of the diseases. This helps in research and understanding
the disease. Being situated in rural area, the epidemiological
surveys will be conducted to understand the incidence and
prevalence and risk factors of various diseases and treatment
of curable blindness.
